I turn on my computer Friday morning, and there’s a message from my dad in the US. “Are you OK?” it reads. “I see you weren’t at Scrabble this week.”

 

Ever since the Club has had a website, my dad checks the weekly Standings as devotedly as any playing member.  He’s thrilled when he sees I’ve had a good week, concerned for me when it’s less than good — and outright worried when he sees I missed a session.  Fifty seasons on, and he knows there’s still very little that can stop me turning up on a Tuesday night…
